The Answer to the Prentice Events competition question is "Justice Of The Peace/Judge"

The Auld Alliance Charity Cycle is in its third year and is a cycle from Parliament in Edinburgh to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

We are cycling from the Civic Centre on the 27th August to Hull, taking the ferry to Zebrugge and then cycling to Paris to arrive on the 4th September. Total just under 600 miles.

In September 2009 Alex Linkston and Sue Cook took part in Pedal for Scotland which was 55 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh, on the morning Alex thought the next challenge should be the Auld Alliance which West Lothian Council are helping to sponsor. Sue agreed on the condition there was no restriction to the amount of luggage that can be taken- Alex agreed!

The cycle is in two parts – part one is Alex Linkston, Sue Cook and Andy Hutton who are cycling to Hull, there we will meet with other cyclists for the ferry ride to Zebrugge and then about 26 people in total will cycle to Paris.

West Lothian Council

The cycle is being used as a project for the Curriculum for Excellence in West Lothian schools. A tracker device will be fitted to the bikes and Andy and Alex will be fitted with helmet cams. Primary school kids all over West Lothian will track the team real time using google earth and while tracking them will learn about math (time/distance, velocity, etc!), geography, history, languages and healthy eating. This is an innovative project using the Curriculum for Excellence the first time in Scotland such a project is taking place.

Visit the Curriculum For Excellence Blog to see what the children have been up to.
